Celtic Pewter Pendant Necklace - Irish Harp - EIR-238
Product Details
Brand: NIRVANA
From early times to the end of the 19th century Ireland is unique in having a musical instrument, the harp, as its national emblem. Known as Clarsach in Scottish Gaelic and Clairseach in Irish Gaelic, the Irish Harp, sometimes called the Celtic Harp, was popular with the Gaelic elite during the medieval period. However, by the sixteenth century the great Highland Bagpipe supplanted the harp in the Scottish world. At the same time during the English rule in Ireland the harp as a folk and court instrument was suppressed to prevent a resurgence of nationalism there. The harp on a green background symbolizing Ireland first appeared in July 1642 when Eoghan Rua O’Neill returned from Spain to head the Ulster armies in the 1641 rebellion. Gradually the green flag with the gold harp came to be seen as an emblem of Ireland. Pendants come on Legend Cards with a 33-inch long black cord. Fine Lead-Free Pewter. Packaged on Recycled paper cards.
