About the author: George Arundale was international President of the Theosophical Society from 1934 until his death in 1945. He presided over the affairs of the Society during the difficult years of World War II when many European branches were forced to close their doors due to the spread of fascism and Nazism. A great admirer of Annie Besant, he worked closely with her in her many educational efforts while she served as President of the TS. Mr. Arundale was also the principal of the Central Hindu college, Varanasi, India, and later of the National University of India.
